HR professionals are busy people. From posting job applications online to facilitating the entire onboarding process, hiring teams dedicate countless hours toward finding and recruiting the best candidates for the company. However, sometimes hiring tasks are forgotten among the day-to-day chaos of office life.

Fortunately, there are many ways to ensure hiring isn’t put on the back burner. Here are five tips to help HR professionals make hiring a priority instead of a chore.

Dedicate a set hiring lead

Having someone on staff dedicated specifically to the task of hiring keeps HR teams organized and on track. If multiple people are all juggling the recruitment and hiring process, it’s easy for disconnect between team members to occur.

Assign one person the tasks related to hiring, and make sure everyone on the team understands their role. If there’s a dedicated hiring lead on the HR team, recruiting is guaranteed to always be moving forward.

Set an interview goal per week

Most office professionals respect an effective goal-setting process. Setting goals helps professionals prioritize their tasks and work toward completing them. This works well with interviews and other hiring tasks.

Set a goal to complete a certain number of interviews per week and follow through! Doing so will help complete those pesky hiring tasks and create habits that have the potential to pay off in the long run. Even if you’re swamped with work, having a set goal will help you make time in your busy schedule to get the job done.

Always accept resumes

Even when you’re not hiring, accepting resumes is a great way to curb time spent on future hiring activities. By constantly collecting and scanning resumes, hiring teams are able to create a pipeline of prospective candidates to reach out to once the need arises. Be sure to have an email linked on your website where interested applicants can send resumes, even if you’re not specifically looking to fill a role.

Stay in touch with candidates

HR professionals streamline hiring processes by staying in touch with past candidates. A prior applicant may not have been well-suited for an earlier role, but a future position might be a perfect fit. Keeping former candidates engaged and showing continued interest will make long-term hiring processes easier by tapping into a base that already has been screened.

Lean on tech tools

There are plenty of technology tools out there that aim to make HR professionals’ lives a bit less hectic. These tools can be especially helpful for small teams or companies who receive a lot of applications since they streamline the process and reduce work for hiring managers.

Consider using recruiting software that automatically posts open roles, sifts through resumes, and follows up with candidates. With HR professionals cutting time-consuming processes like digging through resumes, they’re free to focus on more important things: making sure the right person is hired for the job.

HR professionals juggle a lot, so it’s understandable that occasionally, hiring falls to the wayside. However, an efficient and continuous recruitment and hiring process is the backbone of the company, so it’s important that HR professionals implement the necessary steps to prioritize adding new talent to their teams.
