While you’re busy taking care of a never-ending stream of admin, payroll and HR issues – and struggling to keep your health insurance costs under control – who is really taking care of your customers?

A Professional Employer Organization (PEO) is an integrated, total HR solution for the small to medium size business. The PEO provides a complete suite of HR services including the management of payroll, employee benefit programs, and human resource functions.
Through a co-employment relationship, the PEO allows a client access to:
In a co-employment relationship, the PEO becomes a co-employer of the employees at each client site. This allows the PEO to add a small to medium size group of employees to a much larger group. By adding these employees to a large group, the PEO is able to facilitate the economy of scale necessary to provide expertise in all areas of HR management, while providing employee benefit programs with choice and cost structure that is normally reserved for large corporations.
The client company continues to direct the employees as they did before, but now they have an expert staff to help:

WorkSmart’s services are primarily focused on 4 areas:
WorkSmart Systems offers these great benefits:
Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code provides tax savings to employees and employers by allowing employees to have certain items taken out of their paychecks on a pre-tax basis. This reduces the taxable income of the employee, and the payroll tax burden of the employer.
Section 125 provides for a Premium Only Plan. This allows an employee to have deductions for certain insurance premiums, like Medical and Dental, taken pre-tax. Given the rising cost of these premiums, this can amount to a tremendous savings for the employee and employer.
Section 125 also provides for Flexible Spending Accounts. These accounts allow an employee to pay for certain out-of-pocket costs with pre-tax dollars.
All Section 125 options are available to employees through the WorkSmart plan.
WorkSmart offers a Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Limited Healthcare Flexible Spending Account and a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account for employee use.
Healthcare Flexible Spending Account / Limited Flexible Spending Account
A Healthcare Flexible Spending Account is used to pay for almost any legitimate expense (medical, dental, vision, pharmacy) that is not covered by a group plan.
Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account
A Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account is used to pay for costs associated with dependent care for a child under the age of 13, or other adult dependent who is incapable of self care.
These flexible spending accounts allow an employee to pay for the above mentioned costs with pre-tax dollars. This reduces the taxable income of the employee and the payroll tax burden of the employer.
WorkSmart offers access to a large group medical plan with a variety of choices available to the employee. The plan options include traditional deductible/co-pay based plans, as well as, consumer driven health plans (CDHP).
The unique value that can be provided by WorkSmart is the ability of small to medium size businesses to offer their employees the ability to join a much larger group, and gain the economy of scale that provides more choice and greater premium stability.
WorkSmart offers access to a large group dental plan with two choices available to the employee. These dental options are offered on a fully insured basis.
WorkSmart offers access to a group term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance plan.
Life insurance offers a way to give your family the financial means to cope with the death of one of its members. WorkSmart offers this protection for employees as well as spouses or children. This term insurance is offered in amounts you choose to meet your family’s current financial needs, and at more favorable rates than you will find for individual policies. Term insurance, the most common type of life coverage, is designed to meet fluctuating needs as your family changes. Your designated beneficiaries receive the insurance amount you choose upon the death of the insured person.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D) allows you to tailor WorkSmart’s life insurance offering to better fit your personal situation. AD&D provides additional benefits if the death was the result of an accident or if the insured suffers accidental loss of a limb or eye. Premiums for this group insurance are also more favorable than for individual policies.
Please contact WorkSmart to learn more about these plans.
In the past 10 years, the number of employers offering vision plans almost doubled, so this is clearly an emerging incentive for employees. WorkSmart offers a great way to help you and your employees receive vision testing and corrective eye wear.
WorkSmart offers vision benefits to employees enrolled in the medical plan. The vision plan offers preferred care provider discounts. In addition, you can save on eye care products and laser vision correction.
WorkSmart offers access to a group Disability insurance plan.
Short Term Disability Insurance (STD)
Short Term Disability Insurance offers income replacement for short periods. For example, child birth or major surgery could mean weeks of no earnings, because you are unable to work. By electing this insurance, you can bridge the income gap that anyone could experience with common medical issues. Your plans to return to work are made much more pleasant by removing worry over life’s every day expenses.
Long Term Disability Insurance (LTD)
Long Term Disability Insurance offers income replacement for long periods – perhaps even until retirement age. This insurance is meant for more extended periods of being unable to work. For example, severe injuries from an auto accident could mean many months of rehabilitation. Your long term recovery can be more focused by eliminating concerns about how you will pay your bills over a period of months or even years. This insurance can also help fill the void before a person can qualify for social security disability.
Worksmart offers a line of supplemental insurance products which will help you absorb higher deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. These voluntary products are designed to work in conjunction with your medical plan.
Pays a cash benefit when you are hospitalized.
Supplemental accident insurance that provides you with off-the-job coverage for accident-related expenses.
Critical Advantage Plus
Insurance that protects you, your family and your assets in the event of a critical illness.
Free of Charge! WorkSmart offers a free Employee Assistance Program (EAP), completely confidential, for all employees wanting assistance with specific issues.
In the modern workplace it is essential to offer a retirement plan. The 401K plan has proven to be the most effective type of retirement plan for most employers. WorkSmart offers its clients access to a 401K & Profit Sharing Plan through John Hancock that provides lower fees and elimination of administrative time and headaches.
WorkSmart is dedicated to affecting a long term improvement in the health of all participants in the WorkSmart medical plans. A by-product of this change is lower health care costs to the employee and employer. Our comprehensive wellness program is a large part of this effort. This program includes an annual visit with a wellness coordinator, Health Risk Assessment (HRA), and screening for common risk factors. The goal of the program is to bring risk factors to the attention of the employee, and to provide them with information that will help them make healthy decisions.
WorkSmart provides a Benefit Specialist to meet with each new employee that will be eligible for the employee benefit plans. This Benefit Specialist will educate the employee on the programs available, answer all questions, and get the employee enrolled in the plans of their choice.
Dealing with benefits related insurance issues can often be confusing and frustrating for employees. The WorkSmart Benefits Team will assist employees with these issues, and be an advocate for them with the insurance carriers. Because WorkSmart is a major account to all of these insurance carriers, we have direct access to a dedicated service team at each insurance carrier that can resolve issues in a more efficient manner than the employee would typically be able to accomplish on their own.

WorkSmart provides on-demand outsourced recruiting services tailored to the hiring needs of small businesses. These services offer many advantages:
Can you let your profits walk out the door? Whenever an employee terms, your investment in them goes out the door at the same time. And, the backlash is that your customers must suffer, too. New hires always start out low on a quality / productivity curve, so that means longer response times, incorrect or incomplete data, and even higher costs, since customers share in these low productivity costs every time they make a purchase or use your service. The same is true for recruiting and other replacement costs.
WorkSmart offers the capability of criminal background checks, driver license checks and skills testing. You can learn about convictions and poor driving habits. You can also test prospective employees in the skills they need to perform the job successfully.
WorkSmart offers a variety of personality and skills assessment tools to assist the client in making decisions regarding hiring, promotion, job reassignment, etc. The assessment tools are available on-line and can return results in as little as 24 hours.

Inside Indiana Business
WorkSmart Systems owner, Matt Thomas, was interviewed by Inside Idiana Business on November 6, 2005.
Thomas predicts human resource outsourcing in the USA will continue to grow at an annual rate of 16 percent through the year 2009. As a leader in the Indiana marketplace, WorkSmart could lower the total cost of HR services by 20 to 30 percent.
“Companies like WorkSmart Systems – a Castleton-based conduit company for health insurance and other human resources functions – make it possible for small businesses to purchase health insurance in bulk by pooling resources. WorkSmart takes on the human resources function for clients that become ’employees’ of WorkSmart, even though they continue to operate their businesses separately.” – Hamilton County Business Views
“For a group of small businesses in central Indiana, WorkSmart Systems Inc. has been a big help. In addition to providing payroll and human resources services expected of professional employer organizations, WorkSmart has been able to find benefits for its clients that have cushioned the blow of climbing health care costs.” – Indianapolis Business Journal
“I just wanted to let you know that Andrea did a wonderful job yesterday during our benefit meetings. She tailored the message in the way that we wanted and did a great job of fielding questions and reassuring our staff. Kudos to her and to all of you for taking so much time to prepare our people for this year’s changes. Thanks!”
-Terri, WorkSmart client
“Melissa: Thank you for all of your help. Don’t know what I’d do without you all!”
-Maria, WorkSmart client
“Have a great Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy your time off. I’m thankful for many things, one of which is the competent staff I work with and WorkSmart; especially the payroll folks. Thank you.”
-Julie, WorkSmart client
“Hello Matt, I wanted to touch base and let you know we had the pleasure of hosting the education of benefits with Tammy today. You have yourself a very educated employee, who is very knowledgeable on all sectors of benefits. Thank you all for taking the time to educate our staff; it was a sigh of relief to a lot of employees making a change in benefit coverage.”
-Ryan, WorkSmart client
“Jerri, Thank you for your webinar on Interviewing and Hiring. My colleagues and I found it very informative. If possible, please send three copies of the PowerPoint presentation. There was a lot of information I was unable to quickly jot down and your printed material will be a great reference.”
-Carol, WorkSmart client
“Nanci, Everyone at WorkSmart has been so nice. We feel very lucky to have found you all.”
-Sally, WorkSmart client
“We have been working with WorkSmart Systems since January of 2008 and I now wish that I had made the move in 2007, when I was first introduced to the company. The structure of the PEO was just different enough to give me pause, but I’ve found nothing but positives since becoming a client. The medical coverage has been great, as has been my experience with all of the services. We were recently in need of adding staff and used one of the WorkSmart services; HireSmart. Jerri manages this program and was a great deal of help to me. Jerri was easy to work with and was very helpful to me throughout the interview process. Her knowledge and insight was extremely valuable and accurate. We have a great new employee and I will definitely ask for Jerri’s help with our future hiring needs. WorkSmart Systems has been a wonderful resource for us.”
-Ken, WorkSmart client
“Candy, It has been a very good experience the past 18 months working with Aetna, yourself, and the rest of the people at WorkSmart. And that is not a common experience in the health insurance world in the US. So thanks very much for all you, WorkSmart and Aetna did for my wife and myself over the past 18 months.”
-Larry, WorkSmart co-employee
“Mike, I want to take a moment to let you know how happy I’ve been with the customer service I’ve received from WorkSmart. I think it’s rare these days to find a company that explains processes so thoroughly and responds quickly when employees need help. That has been the case every time I’ve called anyone at WorkSmart.”
-Thea, WorkSmart co-employee
“Sir, I’ve never liked working with any benefits departments from my past employers because I always had the impression that it would be time consuming, they would be rude, and that they would not answer questions I’ve had. It just wasn’t worth dealing with, which is why I haven’t even been to a doctor in the last 8 years. Illness was easier to fight on my own than to deal with benefits and insurance companies. I assumed all companies worked this way, which is why I have not attempted to contact your benefits administrator very often and always dreaded open enrollment time where I would have to deal with changes, and thought it would be very complicated, and I would not have time for it. I was wrong about Worksmart. I recently worked with Jessica on dealing with open enrollment, and flex spending. She responded within minutes and hours… Not many days or weeks. Jessica was very friendly, and easy to work with. Although your past benefit administrators may have been great as well, I did not have the chance to ask them many questions (mainly because I was afraid to from past experiences). I had questions on the flex spending plan, and Jessica explained it to me very well, and when I had a problem, she looked it up and resolved it very quickly. I think one of the things that make a company a success are people who work hard to deserve their wages. Not only do people like Jessica contribute to the success of the company, but because the company can operate efficiently, they contribute to the success of the economy as a whole. I will be informing my company that I am very happy with WorkSmart, and would recommend that others use you as well.”
-Ricky, WorkSmart co-employee
“Hi Kim, Thanks so much for talking with me and clarifying some of the healthcare details. This stuff can get pretty confusing when you’re not used to dealing with it every day. Thanks again!”
-Steve, WorkSmart co-employee
“At first, we just wanted to reduce our health insurance costs, but we have learned that the true value of a good PEO like WorkSmart is in the various HR Services they provide. They have helped us become a better company.”
-Douglas G., Indiana Business Owner
“It was a no-brainer – we didn’t have time to handle HR, payroll, and health insurance issues. We’re more profitable with WorkSmart because our focus is on our core business!”
-Kelly H., Public Relations Firm
