There are few things more important than the performance management of your employees. Whether done through a formal Performance Appraisal Program or done informally throughout the year, every performance management system should contain the following elements:
A review of performance over the entire review period. Do not make the mistake of focusing only on a particular period of time, for example, the “recency” effect where only the most recent events are considered.
A review of goals, both over the current review period and upcoming for the next review period. Keep goals simple and SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound).
A discussion about training and development needs.
